i just came across your article and wanted to agree with the micro-philanthropists statements, but add that many of us have always been "MP's" there's just more of us now. We've become more sensitive to the new additional needs of others who we now know that need our help with their groceries or paying their light bill. We now all live in neighborhoods that have Bank foreclosure signs on their street. So that's why i see this phrase staying around and because it positively reflects on the many small donors who together do many good deeds. I hope to see more from you on this, thanks.
Christine- I don't have your email address but would love it! The package arrived and it was amazing to receive. Your super thoughtful letter and the letters you saved- what a treat. I read the letters out loud to my mom on the phone last night- we were cracking up. I owe you a big reply but am not sure when/how I can possibly offer you the richness of what you wrote me. Do give me your email so we can have more regular correspondence. My personal one is: mandy_levenberg@yahoo.com

Hi Mandy,

So as you know I'm reading up on gardening methods these days. I found this awesome organization--Ecology Action--that has been researching how to build soil while growing food in a sustainable loop. There are also carbon sequestering benefits to building soil because it involves growing compost crops and tilling that carbon-rich plant material into the soil. So, local is the new organic, and growing our own food using soil building techniques could really help...one garden, one block, one neighborhood at a time.

Here's their website:

http://www.growbiointensive.org/

And a related website for purchasing books, seeds, etc:
